About Saletoga
Gavin and Lurline Brightwell built Saletoga Sands on what was once a coconut plantation along the south coast, far from the bustle of Apia, with a lagoon that settles the shoulders the moment you arrive.
This is still very much a family place. Guests often mention seeing the owners around the resort — not as a performance, but as neighbours who happen to know every corner of the gardens and every name on the team.

Saletoga sits on Upolu's south coast, about an hour from Faleolo Airport and the same from Apia. Far enough from the bustle to feel like you've actually arrived somewhere.
The south coast is where Samoa's most photographed places are: To Sua Ocean Trench, Lalomanu Beach, Papapapaitai Falls. All within easy reach of a morning's drive.
Your hosts
Originally from Hamilton, New Zealand, Gavin and Lurline Brightwell first visited Samoa as travellers. They stayed, found an old coconut plantation on the south coast, and opened Saletoga Sands in 2014.
Gavin's 40 years in building shaped how the resort was put together; Lurline works alongside the chefs on the menus. They still live on the property they built, and guests often mention bumping into them around the grounds — not as a performance, but as the people who happen to live here.
